第四屆世界棒球經典賽八強賽，美國隊首戰出戰委內瑞拉，8局下皇家隊重砲Eric Hosmer（侯斯莫）一棒敲出逆轉2分砲，終場美國隊就以4:2贏球，拿下八強賽首勝。
前5局委內瑞拉先發投手Felix Hernandez好投，他投滿5局被打3安打，3次三振，共用60球，且無失分。
委國3局上由利用Ender Inciarte擊出高飛犧牲打，送回壘上的Carlos Gonzalez，讓委內瑞拉先馳得點，7局上Rougned Odor（歐多）再敲出右外野陽春砲擴大比分。
但美國隊7局下由Jonathan Lucroy敲出右外野高飛犧牲打扳回一城，次局更是厲害，先由金鶯隊重砲手Adam Jones（亞當瓊斯）敲出左外野陽春砲追平比分，Eric Hosmer再轟出超前2分彈，最後就以4:2逆轉委內瑞拉。
美國隊牛棚投手Andrew Miller、Pat Neshek、Luke Gregerson順利封鎖委內瑞拉，也是比賽關鍵，Neshek1局無失分，拿下勝投。
美國新款隊全場11支安打，也比委內瑞拉5支來得多，加上委內瑞拉Odor兩次失誤，也是無形中輸球原因之一。

當前中美貿易關係緊張，兩岸關係也陷入僵局，前海基會副董事長高孔廉昨（3）日表示，短期內兩岸關係難有改善，而中美之間發生貿易戰的可能性很高，若真的發生貿易戰，短期對大陸台商雖然有害，但是長期來看，有助於大陸市場更加開放。
高孔廉昨日在台北經營管理研究院舉辦的「當前大陸台商面對的商機、挑戰與對策」座談會上表示，「現在中美雙方都在試探性放話，全面貿易戰可能性不大，但是局部貿易戰很有可能。」他呼籲政府和台商應盡快採取應對措施。
台北經營管理研究院院長陳明璋表示，中美雙方是規則制定者，台灣往往只能遵循兩大強國的遊戲規則，在外打拚的台商更是首當其衝。他形容台商的處境是：「以前是在外商打工，後來是幫大陸養工。」
對此，高孔廉認為，若中美爆發貿易戰，對台商來說反而是契機，因為大陸以開發中國家身份加入WTO，對於特定市場採取保護措施，再加上國家對市場的干預，台商在大陸常常吃虧。若美國政策能迫使大陸進一步開放市場，對台商來說反而是好事。
在場的台商們多表示，正在研擬貿易戰後可能的對策。至於要如何因應貿易戰帶來的短期損失？
高孔廉表示，台商可以加重東南亞等市場的布局，將部分產業轉移至其他地區。另外，勞力密集的產業在大陸的發展空間有限，應該結合服務業，打造當地的品牌通路。
對於川普上任後，中美台三方的關係發展，高孔廉強調，「一中原則」是大陸的核心利益，陸方不會接受美方將其視為談判籌碼。目前兩岸執政者都不可能再讓步，導致新共識遲遲無法出現，兩岸關係並不樂觀。
徐州台商協會會長張冠中表示，雖然政府說希望維持現狀，但事實上現在並未維持現狀。以徐州為例，目前徐州往返台灣航班大幅減少。
也有台商憂心地表示，若兩岸雙方長期僵持下去，台灣會是較吃虧的一方，政府必須恢復與陸方談話。此外，面對大陸「紅色供應鏈」的崛起，衝擊到台灣產業與業者，影響到兩岸經貿交流，同樣需要兩岸政府正視此一問題。
